I want to make beautiful things, even if nobody cares.

— Saul Bass

In 2024, we find ourselves in a golden age of motion design.

Battle-hardened production apps such as After Effects have been revitalized by newly expanded scripting and 3D capabilities.

At the same time, a host of new platforms—Rive, Fable, Calvary, Spline, and Lottie—have entered the space, creating new methods and workflows which introduce efficiencies and knock down long-existing technological barriers to creative expression.

This space is an expanding repository for tests of new design features, coding techniques, platforms, and general motion-related experiments.

Self-imposed creative boundaries for each animated piece include:

  • geometrically-inspired visuals

  • art must be created in a scalable, vector format

  • no more than 1 hour spent on each piece, from concept to completion

Huge thanks and credit go to a wide swath of designers and technologists whose work serves as inspiration for these motion experiments, but most of all to the great Tilman and Carlo Vega.
